Trio Treats!

It’s always a good sign that you’re in for a treat of a concert when you run out of programmes! We welcomed almost 100 people to our lunchtime concert audience today.

Adam, Sarah and Louisa opened the programme with the first movement of Beethoven’s ‘Ghost’ Piano Trio. We didn’t actually get to meet the ghost… you need to return next season for the next movement apparently!

Next up was Shostakovich’s very evocative and atmospheric Piano No 2. Adam introduced it by saying that it wouldn’t necessarily be an easy listen, but would be ‘an experience.’ The piece makes use of some unusual bowing and fingering techniques to produce some very unique and varied soundscapes. I was sat next to a 6 month old who was kicking her legs very vigorously in response to the music!

The concert finished with Piazzola’s ‘Summer’ from Four Seasons which effortlessly transported us to the sunshine in Buenos Aires.

Do join us next month on Tuesday 8th July for our final lunchtime concert this season, which we will be performing in memory of our dear friend Andrew Thurgood.
