Thursday in St John’s

It was lovely to welcome lots of Reza friends, as well as some new faces, to our second afternoon concert at St John’s Church in Crawley. The church was wonderfully cool in comparison to the glorious sunshine outside and Alan was on hand with his legendary tea-making skills to ensure a warm welcome.

Adam, Anna, Sarah and Pavlos treated us to a wonderful programme, starting with ‘A Little Prelude and Fugue’ by Bach. Then, whilst Anna changed from her violin onto her viola, Sarah introduced the Arensky String Quartet, which isn’t often played and is unusually scored for violin, viola & two cellos. Arensky dedicated it to his friend, Tchaikovsky, who had died the year before.

The concert ended with Scott Joplin’s gentle piece Solace, whose rhythm is a mix of tango and habanera.
