What an amazing Reza week!
We’ve had an wonderful week of music, working every day, reaching audiences across Sussex. Watch our 1 minute film to experience our journey!
On Monday evening we had Music Club. This free-to-join monthly meet-up via zoom is where we can chat about all things music. This month, Lucy Jeal discussed Mendelssohn’s stunning violin concerto she was performing later in the week. We talked about other violin concertos we love, and Benjamin Britten’s niece Sally told us that Yehudi Menuhin, having just finished practicing a concerto for a concert, narrowly avoided being flattened by a falling ceiling in a German hotel!
On Tuesday, our free lunchtime concert came from the Methodist church in Haywards Heath, with Pavlos and Andrew Quartermaine playing Rachmaninov - a total treat for all!
On Wednesday we had a great day launching our ‘Five day journey in time’ workshop with students at Ingfield Manor. This included a short concert with our Reza musicians, plus creative music making workshops with students performing alongside our team, coming up with some brilliant creative ideas! More sessions to follow after half term!
On Thursday we had another free concert in Crawley. Our first at St John’s Church, a beautiful secluded church that’s merely a stone’s throw from Crawley Mall. We played Haydn and Beethoven Quartets to an enthusiastic new audience!
On Friday we had an evening concert at the Hawth with Lucy playing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and 9 of our musicians then performing Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings to a packed theatre.
On Saturday morning, our Community Orchestra performed live orchestral music in The Orchards Shopping Centre! In the afternoon Steve Dummer, Toril Azzalini Machecler and friends performed a programme of diverse music including clarinet and percussion, from across the globe to a packed audience at Crawley Museum.
On Sunday morning we had our first Crawley Music Collective rehearsal of the season. A fantastic collaboration with musicians new and old, creating music and playing together for the first time. It was such a success, we’re looking forward to making these regular monthly meet-ups. In the afternoon we had a Community Orchestra rehearsal with the Crawley based Voices of Waterfield school choir in preparation for our fabulous Family Concert in a few weeks time.
