Duets in Broadfield
It was lovely to see everyone back at Broadfield for the first lunchtime concert of the 25/26 season.
Miriam and Matt treated us to a sublime programme of music for violin and viola. Miriam opened the concert with a solo Sonata by Ysaÿe.
Matt then introduced the second item by Spohr who apparently is famous for working his players and not giving them many (any!) bars rest!
The third piece, September Reel by Julian Broughton, was only written in August & today was its World Première. Matt and Miriam played from the same stand and welcomed Julian onto the stage at the end for a heartfelt round of applause.
The concert closed with Sibelius’ beautiful and reflective Duo in C major.
Next month, on 22nd October, we welcome Isaac Skye, who is a flautist in the National Youth Orchestra and a Young Musician of the Year finalist. Do come and join us for what promises to be a very special concert.
