An American Tale
On a rather rainy evening, it was lovely to step out of the inclement weather into the warmth of the Hawth, which was looking very festive. The capacity audience was eager to hear Reza’s all American programme and we were in for a treat.
Sarah kicked the evening off from backstage playing the beautiful Go Tell it On the Mountain tune. The musicians came in singing and clapping and then Pavlos debuted his fabulous harmonica playing.
Dvořák’s lyrical American Quartet featured pigeons, trains and plenty of references to nature and the first half culminated with Anna’s stunning arrangement of Porgy and Bess which was a real crowd-pleaser with so many familiar tunes.
Everybody was toe-tapping through Bernstein’s America, before we were treated to Barber’s very contemplative and beautiful Adagio for Strings. We then heard a jazzy waltz, blues, a boogie woogie and Cole Porter’s It’s De Lovely, before ending with the usual Reza tradition of audience participation and singing a round!
Do join us for our next Hawth concert on 20th March.
