From Winter Rain to Musical Sunshine

For our first concert of 2026, we welcomed pianist Caroline Tyler and tenor Thomas Elwin for a magical free lunchtime concert.

We were transported from the bleak winter rain to a place of beauty and tranquility with powerful soulful singing from Thomas and virtuosic accompaniment from Caroline, which we’ve all come to expect.

The concert included a delightfully varied programme featuring Richard Strauss’s Four Songs Op. 27 as well as a premiere by Caroline called Songs of Winter - a clever and beautiful narrative taking the audience on a journey from Christmas to Spring from darkness to light written for Thomas. A fan of English music, I particularly enjoyed Peter Warlock’s Three Songs and the programme finished with two rousing Puccini Arias from Tosca.

It was a privilege to share our lunchtime concert with such brilliant virtuoso musicians and our audience left with smiles and cheer despite the January rain awaiting them!

For more sunshine music, come and join Reza cellist Pavlos and accompanist Andrew Quartermain for a concert of music by Chopin on Tuesday 10th February.
