Those kids got rhythm!

Ensemble Reza has just visited school number ten of twelve in their workshop series. Pavlos, Sarah & Anna have been working with children (& teachers) on rhythm, singing and dancing and my goodness, what fun we have had!

The musicians have introduced their instruments - violin, piano accordion, guitar & the double bass - and we have clapped some ‘poly’ (more than one) rhythms together, whilst listening to a tango. We have been so impressed at how quickly and accurately the children have picked these up!

Having nailed the rhythms, Pavlos has then talked about Greece, playing his bouzouki and teaching some Greek words through a call and response song. The finale of sessions has always consisted of everyone learning a Greek group dance and singing, which has often ended up with everyone falling on the floor, happily exhausted! Opa Reza!

Wherever we have gone, the children have been thoroughly absorbed throughout and have all joined in enthusiastically, even if they may have been a little nervous to start with. Lots of them have said that they have been inspired to learn an instrument after our visits, which is the VERY best feedback we could wish for.
