Mambo!

The Making Music workshops allow the Ensemble Reza musicians to go into schools and create music in a very interactive way. We take the fundamentals of music - rhythm, melody and dance - and explore these with the pupils through the medium of South American music. Starting with the mambo from Cuba, onto the Argentinian tango and finishing with a flourish, singing and conga-ing our way around the room to a Brazilian samba.

The children experiment with poly-rhythms on percussion, learn to dance the cha cha, hear more about the different instruments and sing in harmony to simple melodies. Looking around the room at the rapt faces and the enormous smiles, it’s clear that these sessions have an huge impact on the children and allow them to experience music in an up close and personal way. We’re often asked lots of questions and have even been invited by the children to play at their school disco!
