Ensemble Reza gives World Première in St Wilfrid’s School

Question: What do you get when you take a fairy tale, set it to music, add six very talented musicians and visit three schools in one day?

Answer: Over a thousand very happy children and teachers!

Today was the first day of Ensemble Reza’s education project (which has been very generously subsidised by National Lottery through Arts Council England) and we truly kicked it off in style.

Three primary schools in Haywards Heath very kindly hosted us for performances of Anna Cooper’s adaptation of a Brothers Grimm story, ‘The Town Musicians of Bremen’. Each instrument in the quintet represents an animal and one by one they leave their mundane existence behind them and have fantastic adventures together, travelling and playing music.

The children were enthralled by Anna’s narration in her wonderful green storytelling coat and listened beautifully, clapping along and shouting out the animal sounds at the appropriate points in the story.

The Ensemble Reza musicians loved playing to such attentive and well-behaved audiences and are really looking forward to the seven future education days, when we will be performing in 21 more schools and hopefully inspiring many more children. We can’t wait!
