Songwriting Workshops

Project outline:

Our song writing workshops are an opportunity for students from years 9-10 to work alongside a professional singer song writer and Ensemble Reza musicians to develop and build their own song writing skills. These sessions culminate in both recording and performing opportunities for students.

Projects aims to include:

  • To give students a basic musical toolkit to create and write their own songs.

  • To continue to give young people the opportunity to experience the social benefits of a music-making project (raising self-esteem, confidence, empowering, resilience etc) especially as teenage years and friendships can become tougher at school.

Reach:  In three days we can:

Run: 6 workshops

Enthuse: 80 young people

Inspire: 6 teachers

Feedback from our 2023 projects:

I think the atmosphere that was created provided the perfect environment for creativity to flourish. The leaders of this workshop were supportive and spoke to students in a way that empowered them to make bold decisions. There was a wonderful journey of how to create a song and the structure of the course worked well in this way. The final results of this workshop was very special for the students and excellent.

I was already planning to do GCSE music but this has made me want to do it even more as I really enjoyed it.

I learnt how to be confident in things I’ve written, how to write music and make my own songs and lyrics. It was inspiring, seeing them play.
— Student feedback from St Paul's Burgess Hill
I enjoyed the teamwork and the problem solving we had to overcome. Although challenging, creating the music was a fun experience overall.
[I enjoyed the] Freedom of creativity; supportive atmosphere; feeling of community.
